Dawne MacKay-Chiddenton and Diane Parris from the Red River College’s Child and Youth Care Program were acutely aware of issues surrounding the quality of care provided to children and youth in Manitoba. As recipients of Wisdom2Action’s Knowledge Mobilization Innovation Funding in 2013 (see full list of recipients here), they created Live My Life: See what its like in partnership with the Broadway Neighbourhood Centre and VOICES.
The documentary details the youth-told experiences and perceptions about what they think works – and what doesn’t – in terms of CYC competencies. With themes of empathy, respect and support running through the commentary, the video places youth at the center of the care experience. The video has been shown to Manitoba-based youth serving and family services agencies as a means of encouraging youth engagement in service delivery, and has received extremely positive feedback.
