W2A: Youth Engagement

Sharing What Works

YMCA Auditorium, 20 Grosvenor Street, Toronto

9:00am - 4:00pm May 15th - 16th, 2018

Wisdom2Action (W2A), formerly known as Children and Youth in Challenging Contexts (CYCC) Network, is partnering with the National Alliance for Children and Youth (NACY) to facilitate a national conversation with youth and the youth serving sector that serves them about youth engagement.

Youth engagement is about empowering all young people as valuable partners in addressing and making decisions about issues that affect them personally and/or that they believe to be important.

Participants will be able to consider multiple dimensions of effective youth engagement such as governance and structure, recruitment and retention and youth led evaluation of youth engagement.

Special Session on Children's Charter

Youth Engagement in Action: Finalizing the Canadian Children's Charter

Tuesday, May 15: 4:15pm - 5:30pm
YMCA, 20 Grosvenor Street, Toronto

In November 2017, 40 youth from across Canada came together to draft Canada's first Children's Charter at the National Children's Summit. The Charter was created with input from hundreds of children and youth from across the country who contributed their ideas through online forums and a survey. It is a call-to-action containing 12 key areas of focus identified by Canadian children and youth.

In this focus group session on May 15th, youth and adults will have the opportunity to learn about the Children's Charter principles, discuss what resonates with them and what may be missing in the document, and contribute ideas on how to raise public awareness and mobilize Canadians to respect, protect and fulfill the rights of Children.

This session will be led by three of the Children's Summit youth participants.

About the Wisdom2Action Event Series

The Wisdom2Action event series was launched by Wisdom2Action (W2A) in December 2013.

The W2A model operates off of the principle that everyone in the room has important knowledge to share. We depart from traditional conference style formats, and have instead created a highly participatory design that allows all participants the opportunity to present their ideas or programs, direct the agenda for the day, and host conversations that are meaningful to them. Learn more about what you can expect at these events by downloading the W2A Brochure below.
